What will poor eat - 'atta' or data? Lalu Prasad Yadav's dig after Jio ad features PM Narendra Modi

Patna: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) president Lalu Prasad Yadav on Saturday mocked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for featuring in Reliance Jio ads.

On Friday, the Aam Aadmi Party and Congress attacked Modi after a full-page advertisement of Reliance's "Jio Digital Life" appeared in newspapers featuring the PM's photograph.

Taking to Twitter, the Bihar politician said in Hindi: "What will the poor eat: atta (wheat flour) or data? Data is cheaper, atta is dearer. This is their definition of changing the country. While you're at it, please explain who will solve the problem of call drops."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had yesterday dubbed the PM as "Mr Reliance".

Kejriwal also took a jibe at Modi for endorsing the brand and advised him to continue "modelling" for the company.

The Congress, meanwhile, sought to know whether Reliance company had taken permission from the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) before using Prime Minister Narendra Modi's photograph in their full page Jio advertisement, and if not, legal action should be taken against them.

However, the advertisement clarified that the launch is "dedicated to realising our Prime Minister's Digital India vision for 1.2 billion Indians".

Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani on Thursday announced that domestic phone calls from the Jio network will be free forever, and unveiled a four-month introductory offer for everyone of a zero-tariff voice and data services, beginning from September 5.
