Video row: Speaker Mahajan hints at action even as Bhagwant Mann apologies

New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party MP Bhagwant Mann, Friday, tendered an unconditional apology for shooting a video of the Parliament, however, Lok Sabha Spaker Sumitra Mahajan appeared unimpressed.

“I respect this temple of democracy (Parliament) and I have tendered an unconditional apology. I have told madam speaker that I will present my defence in front of any committee set up by her to probe the matter,” said Mann.

The Punjab MP, who has also being accused of coming drunk to the Parliament, added: “The BJP has raked up this issue; if they are so worried about security then they should worry about the safety of Dalits.”

He may have chosen to pin the blame on the BJP but the fact is that his actions have attracted condemnation from all most political parties.

Earlier in the day, there was pandemonium across in both houses of the Parliament over the issue. Though it was the NDA members who started the protest, MPs from other parties also joined in to demand action against Mann.

Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, while accepting that Mann has apologised, said that the issue is very serious and an apology may not be enough.

In the nearly 12 minute video, Mann is seen giving a running commentary as his vehicle crosses security barricades and enters Parliament. "I'll today show you something you would not have seen earlier," he is heard saying.

Mann is then shown entering a room where questions to be taken up inside Parliament are being sorted and seen describing the ongoing process.
