UP school headmaster in trouble for purifying chair used by Dalit village head

A probe has been ordered against the headmaster of a primary school in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh after a complaint by the Dalit village head that the he purified his chair before sitting on it as it was was used by her.

Kanpur: A probe has been ordered against the headmaster of a primary school in Kanpur district of Uttar Pradesh after a complaint by the Dalit village head that the he purified his chair before sitting on it as it was was used by her.

According to a report in the Time of India, the complaint has been lodged by Pappi Devi - village head of Veersinghpur village. In her complaint, the woman village head also alleged that she was also humiliated and threatened by the school headmaster Santosh Sharma when she ignored his warnings and sat on the chair. 

She alleged that the incident took place when she had gone to probe the allegations about the poor quality of mid-day meal in the school. 

In her complaint with the district administration, she said Sharma asked a class IV employee of the school to wash the chair with water as part of purification as she belongs to the SC community. 

The district administration has asked the Tehsildar to probe the allegations against the school headmaster.
