Smart cities will give quality, decent life to citizens: Venkaiah Naidu

Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said that smart cities will enable a clean environment and provide smart solutions to problems.

New Delhi: Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday said that smart cities will enable a clean environment and provide smart solutions to problems.

"Smart cities will have the core infrastructure and will give a quality and decent life to citizens. It will enable a clean environment and provide smart solutions to problems," he told the media here.

Naidu, who announced the list of smart cities, said the prime motive of smart city is to enhance urban life.

"The mission is very practical and realistic. We need public`s participation. Smart cities need smart people, we need people`s co-operation to move forward in our mission," he added. The capital cities, which have not been nominated as smart cities, include Itanagar, Patna, Shimla, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

13 cities from Uttar Pradesh, 12 from Tamil Nadu, 10 from Maharashtra, seven from Madhya Pradesh, three each from Bihar and Andhra Pradesh have been included in smart cities.
