New Delhi: A brother of a Pakistani terrorist, who was caught following a fierce gunfight on August 27 in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district, on Sunday said that his family read about Sajjad Ahmed's arrest in a local daily.

Talking to Hindustan Times, Assad Ahmed had on last afternoon admitted that he was the brother of Sajjad Ahmed.

The terrorist was identified as Sajjad alias Abu Ubadullah, 22, a resident of Muzaffargarh district of Balochistan province.

The Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) terrorist was found crying in a cave after soldiers lobbed chilli grenades to flush him out of his hiding spot.

Notably, Sajjad is the second Pakistani terrorist captured alive in Jammu and Kashmir in August.

Assad Ahmed, who works as a security guard in Karachi, told the daily: “Yes, his father’s name is Faiz Baksh and he is a resident of Muzaffargarh”.

“Sajjad’s parents are distraught ever since we heard about his arrest from the newspapers,” he told the daily.

“We have had no contact with him but were shocked that he was arrested by Indian forces.”

Asked if he knew Sajjad had been trained by LeT, Assad said: “We come from a poor family and are faithful Muslims who offer our daily namaz. The Jamaat-ud-Dawah is very active in Muzaffargarh. We had suspicions that he may have been kidnapped by the Jamaat and were not sure whether he was dead or alive till we read the newspaper. Can you get us to talk to Sajjad please?”

Sajjad's capture followed a four-day joint operation by the Army and police.

He was caught after Pakistani terrorist Naved was arrested on August 5 following a terror attack on BSF troopers on the Jammu-Srinagar highway. Naved had taken three people hostage, who overpowered him.
