Rahul Gandhi 'snooping': Congress targets govt over 'feeble excuse'

Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday criticized the Centre for coming with a feeble excuse over the inquiry about Rahul Gandhi's whereabouts and said the NDA government's move to cover up the ulterior motive is very unfortunate.

New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Monday criticized the Centre for coming with a feeble excuse over the inquiry about Rahul Gandhi's whereabouts and said the NDA government's move to cover up the ulterior motive is very unfortunate.

"This is a very feeble excuse that this has happened. There is no evidence. After all, the ministers and other security personnel have had a chance in the past and none of this has been reported ever," Nath told the media here.

"The NDA government making a stripping statement to cover up a subterfuge and to cover up what they are planning in terms of snooping and ulterior motive is very unfortunate," he added.

Congress leader Malikarjun Kharge earlier in the day demanded an official response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on the alleged 'snooping' controversy in the Parliament.

Dubbing the inquiry about Rahul Gandhi's whereabouts as an invasion into the Congress vice-president's privacy, Kharge told the Parliament that this was an extremely serious issue.

He added that this issue is not just related to the Congress vice-president but to all other Members of Parliament and important personalities.

The Congress also raised this issue in the Rajya Sabha with Leader of Opposition Gulam Nabi Azad demanding a statement from the Union Home Minister.

Azad claimed that the government was attempting not only to curb religious and civil freedoms but also political freedom. The Congress leader alleged that the ruling government was attempting to create an atmosphere of fear and insecurity in the country.

Janata Dal (United) leader KC Tyagi and Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal also raised their concern on the issue.
