New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi, who is desperately trying to revive the Grand Old Party, is believed to be ready with a plan aimed at re-energising his party.
According to a NDTV report, the Gandhi scion has envisaged a 10-member body, which will be authorised to take crucial decisions, carrying forward the party's policy of ''collective leadership''.
The ten-member group, which will be responsible for drafting and analysing party's stand on crucial matters, will be similar to the National Advisory Council, which was chaired by his mother and party chief Sonia Gandhi when the Congress was last in power.
The NAC, which included members like economist Jean Dreze and Yogendra Yadav, psephologist and political commentator, besides several activists and business honchos, was often attacked for serving as a super-cabinet whose recommendations were unquestionably followed by then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
As per the report, the new group will comprise 10 senior Congress party members including former union ministers P Chidambaram and Ghulam Nabi Azad among others.
A formal announcement regarding the newly-created 10-member bloc will be made after the Rajya Sabha elections for 54 seats are held on Saturday.
Since its electoral drubbings in 2014 General Elections, during which the Congress earned its worst-ever national result with a mere 44 seats, the Grand Old Party has been unable to reverse a trend of huge defeats in one state after another.
After its recent electoral defeat in Assam and Kerala, the only major state it now holds is Karnataka.
Since the party's debacle in Assam and Kerala, senior party leaders like Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor have called for a major overhaul in Congress while steering clear of blaming the Gandhis even indirectly for the electoral loss.
A large section of Congress leaders are of the opinion that Rahul Gandhi, 45, must now be elevated to the President's post to infuse a new lease of life in the party, throwing indications that the party is reconfiguring a newer and younger top line.
