New Delhi: Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's much talked about sabbatical is finally over and he will be returning to New Delhi on Thursday evening, party spokesperson PC Chacko said on Wednesday.

Missing from action for over a month, the 44-year-old Congress leader has been on a leave of absence since the Budget Session of Parliament that began on February 23.

Lifting the lid off the much-debated mystery surrounding Rahul Gandhi's absence from the public view since last two months, Chacko made it clear that the Congress scion did not disappear or escape and he will return to Delhi on the evening of April 16.

“Our vice president is coming back to join the (farmers') rally. He has made appointment with many leaders and he is joining back,” said Chacko while answering questions during an AICC (All India Congress Committee) presser.

Chacko further informed that Rahul will meet farmers on April 17 and on April 19, he will address the farmers' rally along with Congress president Sonia Gandhi at the Ramlila Ground.

Apparently flummoxed at the questions related to Rahul, Chacko took Rajiv Gandhi's name erroneously and then later rebuked the journos for not having anything else to ask.

Chacko said that Rahul Gandhi was away for few weeks and that he had issued a statement about the same, adding that his privacy must be respected.

“Every individual has the right of privacy,” said Chacko.
