Probe sought into AIIMS faculty selection

A group of AIIMS faculty members have written to the Union Health Ministry demanding investigation into the recently held faculty selection citing violation of reservation policy.

New Delhi: A group of AIIMS faculty members have written to the Union Health Ministry demanding investigation into the recently held faculty selection citing violation of reservation policy.

"We specifically demand that till the violation of reservation policy in current faculty selection is investigated by appropriated body, results should be kept in abeyance.

"And if after due investigation, the violation of reservation policy is proven, then this selection should be made null and void and repeat advertisement of the faculty posts must be done with due implementation of reservation policy as per GOI policy," said the letter addressed to Health Minister JP Nadda.

Referring to the recent celebrations by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the 125th anniversary of Dr B R Ambedkar (1891 to 2015), the faculty members said, "Repeated blatant violation of the principles and beliefs of Babasaheb by the AIIMS administration in New Delhi is affront to this celebration and to the constitution of India."

The letter further said that AIIMS has a long "history and legacy of denial of due rights and discrimination" against SC, ST and OBC students, staff and faculty members especially in faculty selection.

"Denial of constitutional mandate of due implementation of reservation for SC,ST and OBC candidates in recently held faculty selection in AIIMS in 2014-15 has been brought to notice of yourself and AIIMS administration by several representations by many organisations," it said.

The group of doctors appealed Nadda to look into the

improper roster for implementation of reservation for SC, ST and OBC candidates claiming, "there are many errors in making roster of Assistant Professor and DOPT guidelines in letter and spirit to give maximum representation of SC, ST and OBC as per the Constitution of India."

"In recent held faculty selection, in addition to the improper roster, there seems to be manipulation of existing roster and wrong plotting of 3 vacancies (Community Ophthalmology NDDTC and Medicine). All these seats as per DOPT guidelines belong to reserved category but were given to general category," the doctors alleged.

"We, faculty members of AIIMS majority belonging to SC, ST and OBC minority community and others, appeal to your esteemed self, to ensure due implementation of reservation in faculty posts and all other posts at AIIMS in letter and spirit," the letter added.

A faculty group under the Forum for Rights and Equality, last month had accused the hospital administration of attempting to okay the recruitment of faculty members at a recently held Governing Body meeting without applying the proper roster system, overruling the objections raised by some faculty members.
