Bhubneswar: President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday night cut short his visit to Odisha and was returning to the capital after his wife Suvra was hospitalised following illness.
Official sources said Suvra, who has been ill for sometime, has been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the hospital in Delhi. The President was on a two-day visit to Odhisa and he was scheduled to attend a convocation of National Law University at Cuttack.
The President paid performed puja at Puri's Jagannath Temple this morning and later visited Puri beach to see sand sculptures of famous artist Sudarshan Patnaik.
Mrs Mukherjee is under observation and her condition is stated to be stable.
Mukherjee, who earlier in the evening had a 'darshan' of Lord Jagannath at Sri Mandir at Puri, returned to Bhubaneswar by road and took the flight to Delhi, top state government officials said.
During the day, the President attended the golden jubilee function of Rameswar High School in Khurda district.
Mukherjee was scheduled to attend the second convocation function of the National Law University in Cuttack and take part in another function in Bhubaneswar.
