New Delhi: President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday condoled the passing away of G Karthikeyan, Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly.
"I am saddened to learn about the passing away of G Karthikeyan ," President Mukherjee said in a condolence message to his wife, Dr MT Sulekha.
"Karthikeyan made immense contribution to the State of Kerala as a senior Congress leader, six term MLA, Minister and Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly. I fondly remember the meticulous care and attention with which he organised my address to the Kerala Legislative Assembly in October, 2012 on the occasion of its 125th anniversary," he added.
"In his death, the nation has lost a tall leader whose selfless service to the people of Kerala will be always remembered. I pray to the Almighty to give your family and you the strength and courage to bear this irreparable loss. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and convey the same to all members of your family," the President added.
Karthikeyan, who was undergoing treatment for liver cancer, passed away at the Health Care Global (HCG) hospital in Bengaluru earlier in the day. He was 66 years old.
