PM Narendra Modi salutes Japanese resilience

Japan paused today to mark five years since an offshore earthquake spawned a monster tsunami that left about 18,500 people dead or missing.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the resilience of the Japanese on Friday, the fifth anniversary of the massive tsunami-cum-earthquake that killed more than 19,000 people.

"On the fifth anniversary of Great East Japan Earthquake, India offers deep sympathy to those affected," Modi tweeted.

"We admire the resilience of (the) people of Japan."
