PM Modi to reshuffle Union Cabinet soon, may drop non-performing NDA ministers

New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) chief Amit Shah on Friday hinted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will soon reshuffle the Union Cabinet and induct few new faces.

"Cabinet reshuffle will happen soon. The date is not yet fixed," Shah said in a press conference at BJP headquarters in Delhi.

However, Shah stopped short of announcing a date for the much-awaited Union Cabinet reshuffle.

The indication about Union Cabinet came at a time when the Narendra Modi government is celebrating second anniversary of its coming to power at the Centre.

As per party sources, some non-performing Modi government ministers will be possibly dropped and the Prime Minister may induct few fresh faces in the cabinet.

BJP sources, however, claim that it is likely to happen in the first week of June.

It was expected that the reshuffle process will gain momentum after the results of Assembly elections - especially in Assam.

With Sarbanand Sonowal becoming the Chief Minister of Assam, the Union Cabinet is set to get a new minister of state for sports (independent charge), which is currently vacant.

Senior BJP leaders like Arun Jaitley, Rajnath Singh, Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari are expected to keep their Cabinet portfolios.

Sources said Modi want to re-organise the ministerial team at the earliest for executing some of the pending work.
