New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday pulled up party MPs, during parliamentary board meeting on Tuesday, who were not present for voting on Land Acquisition Bill in Lok Sabha.
According to sources, the names of the MPs who were not present during voting were announced and were asked to stand up.
The names of 20 MPs including Varun Gandhi, Babul Supriyo, Poonam Mahajan and Pritam Munde were taken.
Several party members were also pulled up for arriving late for the meeting today even as Modi reached 10 minutes before the meeting was scheduled to begin.
The BJP parliamentary board meeting was held today as Opposition parties will hold a protest march against the “anti-farmer” bill.
Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and leaders of several other parties will march from Parliament House to Rashtrapati Bhavan today.
Other senior leaders including JDS chief HD Devegowda, CPI-M's Sitaram Yechury, CPI's D Raja, Trinamool Congress leader Dinesh Trivedi, SP's Ramgopal Yadav, DMK's Kanimozhi, INLD's Dushyant Chautala and RJD's Prem Chand Gupta are also expected to be part of the protest march.
The leaders of the opposition parties are also likely to submit a memorandum against the new land bill to President Pranab Mukherjee.
Even social activist Anna Hazare has reportedly written to the opposition parties asking them to oppose the bill when introduced in the Rajya Sabha.
He had also held a two-day protest against the bill at Jantar Mantar last month and threatened mass agitation if the bill is passed.
