PM Modi congratulates Nursultan Nazarbayev on re-election as Kazakhstan president

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wrote to re-elected President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to congratulate him on his fifth consecutive term.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday wrote to re-elected President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev to congratulate him on his fifth consecutive term.

An official release quoted Prime Minister as saying:
"I wish to covey my hearty congratulations on your re-election as the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Your re-election is a testament to the abiding faith among the people of Kazakhstan in your visionary leadership. I wish you all success in your continued efforts to build a vibrant and prosperous nation. I am confident that under your able stewardship Kazakhstan will enter a new phase of progress and development.

India remains deeply committed to further strengthening the strategic partnership with Kazakhstan, which has benefitted our two nations and also contributed towards peace and stability in our wider region.

I keenly look forward to my forthcoming to your great country to discuss how we can work together to deepen and diversify our bilateral relationship. With your guidance and support, I am confident that we can elevate our cooperation in the various sectors to an even higher trajectory in the years ahead.

Exit polls had showed Nazarbayev scoring a crushing victory in one-sided presidential ballot, taking 97.5 percent of the vote to win a fifth consecutive term.

The poll also showed Nazarbayev`s closest competitor Turgun Syzdykov as scoring 1.8 percent of the ballot and third candidate Abelgazy Kusainov taking 0.63 percent.

Nazarbayev has ruled the Central Asian country since before the breakup of the USSR in 1991.
