'Operation Dhangu' was the codename given to the mission to eliminate the terrorists from the Pathankot airbase after heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists stormed the Air Force base, triggering a fiece gunbattle in which 7 security men were martyred and all the 6 infiltrators were gunned down.

Pathankot: 'Operation Dhangu' was the codename given to the mission to eliminate the terrorists from the Pathankot airbase after heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists stormed the Air Force base, triggering a fiece gunbattle in which 7 security men were martyred and all the 6 infiltrators were gunned down.

The exercise was given the name -  'Operation Dhangu' - as Dhangu is the name of the village where the airbase has been established.

Undoubtedly, the brave soldiers of security forces save a number of lives as at the time of terror attack that airbase had around 3,000 family members of IAF personnel and 23 trainees from four foreign countries.

The entire operation went on for three days because the area was difficult and close to the family quarters of IAF officials. 

Reportedly, in order save maximum number of lives with minimum damage, security personnel used of minimum firepower.

Also, strategic assets of the airbase were successfully saved by the correct execution of  'Operation Dhangu'.

On Jan 2, in a pre-dawn attack, a group of heavily-armed Pakistani terrorists, suspected to be belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed outfit, struck at the Air Force base in Punjab.

Several countries have condemned the terror attack in which seven securitymen were martyred.
