Passage of Mines Bill in RS 'a big achievement': BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday welcomed the move to pass the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha, saying nobody has the right to loot mines and minerals.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday welcomed the move to pass the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill in the Rajya Sabha, saying nobody has the right to loot mines and minerals.

"This is a very big achievement. Mines and Minerals Bill Ordinance was brought because no person or government has the right to loot mines and minerals," said BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain.

Hussain asserted that mines and minerals belong to this country.

"We are very happy that the steps, which we had decided to take in favour of the country, are coming true," he added.

The Rajya Sabha earlier today passed the Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Amendment Bill.

According to reports, 117 people voted in favour of the bill while 69 opposed it.

The bill would now be sent to the Lok Sabha for consideration.(
