Patna: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday accused AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi of politicising the hanging of 1993 Mumbai serial blasts convict Yakub Memon, saying the law does not see the religion of a culprit while delivering justice

"Both Hindus and Muslims were killed in Mumbai bomb blasts, he (Yakub Memon) has killed both Hindus and Muslims. It is a sin to look at this from Hindu-Muslim point of view. The law does not see religion of the culprit," BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain told ANI.

"Owaisi is needlessly politicising the matter. The law is equal for everyone," he added.

Owaisi had yesterday said Memon is being hanged only because he belongs to a particular religion and added that death sentences of those convicted in former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination case were commuted to life imprisonment.

Yakub, who is to be hanged on July 30, had last week filed a mercy petition to the Governor.
