Srinagar/Ahmedabad: With the Southwest Monsoon hurrying across over entire India except western Rajasthan, the weather department has predicted heavy rainfall in several states on Friday.

With Monsoon further advancing into north Arabian Sea and most parts of north and west India, heavy rainfall is expected in Uttarakhand, Himacahal Pradesh, West Bengal, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Assam today.

The southwest Monsoon is said to be fast advancing into remaining parts of the Arabian Sea, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himacahal Pradesh, West Bengal, Haryana, Delhi and some parts of Rajasthan.

According to the met office, the southwest Monsoon has been vigorous over east Rajasthan, Gujarat's Saurashtra and Kutch regions.

Meanwhile, after living in fear for two days, the Kashmiris can heave a sigh of relief as the flood threat is retreating with improvement in weather and declining water level in many rivers. The water level in river Jhelum has also started receding. The Meteorological department has predicted scattered rain and thundershowers for today.

However, in Gujarat the situation continues to be grim with persistent rains causing extensive damage to life and property. The death toll due to heavy rainfall, followed by a flood-like situation in many parts of Gujarat, has gone up to 70, including 26 casualties in the worst affected Amreli district.

The Gujarat government has announced Rs 4 lakh each as compensation to families of the deceased. "We have decided to give a compensation of Rs 4 lakh each to families of all the deceased. In addition, we have also decided to give cash doles for the next ten days to people in affected areas,” Gujarat Health Minister and spokesperson of the government Nitin Patel said.
