New Delhi: One Indian was killed and two others injured in mortar attacks from Yemen around Samtah General Hospital in Jizan Region of Saudi Arabia, Ministry of External Affairs confirmed on Saturday.

The victim has been identified as Panayappilli Farouq, from Kerala's Ernakulam district.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Vikas Swarup confirmed the same on Twitter.

The two injured are Mohd Sadiq from Bihar and Sunny Thomas from Kerala, official sources said today.

The Indian was among four killed when Yemeni Houthi rebels attacked the Samtah hospital early yesterday morning, they said, adding the injured Indians were not in serious condition.

According to reports, two Bangladeshi nationals, who were employed in the hospital, were also killed in the attack.

The Yemeni Houthi rebels attacked the Samtah hospital on Friday in retaliation against Saudi Arabia-led air strikes on Yemen that began in March this year.

Yemen has been facing a civil war-like situation with Shiite rebels clashing with pro-government forces. United Nations estimates that more than 4,500 people have been killed in the conflict since March.
