New Delhi: Tulsi Pujan Diwas is being celebrated on Friday (December 25) in many parts of India. The herb is widely cultivated for its reputed spiritual and medicinal properties.

The plant is significant in worship. It is superior than fragrant flowers. It is said that using tulsi leaves in worship brings prosperity.

Tulsi has medicinal properties as well.

Tulsi helps in treating eczema, psoriasis and ageing effects.

It is also used as an antibiotic, an anti-inflammatory, a stress reducer, and an immune system booster.

Last year, a report had said that a team of scientists at a US university are genetically engineering tulsi to enhance its pharmaceutical value so that it can help in controlling breast cancer.
