Not entirely true that there's complete gap between armed forces and Valley people: Congress

Former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has rubbished suggestions of their being a complete gap or lack of communication between India`s armed forces and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

New Delhi: Former External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid has rubbished suggestions of their being a complete gap or lack of communication between India`s armed forces and the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

He said the fact that twelve army soldiers were rescued by local residents after their truck overturned in Lasjan near Srinagar on Sunday, is proof of this.

"That`s very good. I mean it shows people, who believe that there is a complete gap between our armed forces and the local population, because of the tension that has existed for the last two-three months is not entirely true; there are still human relationships and human bonds," Khurshid told ANI.

"I think this gives us 'great-great' encouragement and it persuades us that there is scope that finally this tension will settle down and we will find a happy solution so that everybody in Jammu and Kashmir can happily live in the Indian family, in the large Indian enterprise and make a positive contribution to it," he added.

The truck, ferrying 12 soldiers, overturned in Lasjan near Srinagar when it was on its way to B.B. Cantt. Local residents rushed to the spot and evacuated the army personnel by lining up a tipper near the truck.

"The Indian Army thanked the locals, who helped and rescued them, especially women," said army sources.
