Modi govt anti-farmer: Govindacharya

Lucknow: BJP on Monday faced the ire of its former ideologue KN Govindacharya who dubbed the Narendra Modi-led Central government as "anti-farmer" over the land acquisition bill, alleging its polices "as anti-poor and pro-US".

He also termed the BJP's alliance with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir as "short-term gain and long-term loss".

"The policies of the Centre show its anti-farmer face. The manner in which budgetary allocation for irrigation has been reduced gives ample proof," he said on the sidelines of a state-level conference of panchayat representatives who demanded withdrawal of the land bill.

He said that the future strategy would be decided after holding a collective meeting with various stake holders.

He alleged that policies of the centre were pro-US and pro-rich.

"I will say that policies are anti-people and anti-poor policies and are pro-US and pro-rich. We protest the policies, but we don't doubt on the intentions as of now," he said in a reply to a question.

On Modi's book, which reportedly said that BJP won because of him and not due to the organisation, the former think tank said that the people were supreme.

"If any party has misunderstanding, then it will not continue for long," he said.

He alleged that Modi has declared to give 6,000 crore loan to a corporate house, though it was a different thing that later it was said that processing would be done.

"But the declaration was made. This is what is called crony capitalism," he said.

On a question that whether the government cheated the people, Govindacharya said, "there is no scope of debate on this. The Government brought the ordinance after talking with the political parties without consulting the stakeholders."

He termed the BJP's alliance with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir as "short-term gain and long-term loss".

"BJP's alliance with PDP in Jammu and Kashmir is unethical, immoral and opportunistic. It is a short-term gain and long-term loss," he told reporters here. "Irrespective of loss to anyone, it is loss for the country," he said.
