New Delhi: Congress leader Anil Shastri on Sunday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticised previous governments in last 30 years, including the one led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on foreign soil as there were "not many takers" of his rhetorics in the country.

In a series of tweets, on the micro-blogging website Twitter, he said, "Why does Mr Modi criticise previous govts of 30 yrs including Atalji's on foreign soil? Maybe there aren't many takers to his rhetorics here".

"If India is seen as an emerging economic and military power, it's because what Congress did in last 30 yrs and not what Mr Modi did in last 1 yr.

"Mr Modi,...Indians are respected abroad for not what you have done in last one year but for what Congress did in last 30 years," he said.

"As people in India are fed up of Mr Modi's rhetorical speeches, he decided to celebrate completion of his 1 yr in office on a foreign soil," he tweeted.

In other tweets, Shastri also made a strong pitch for making the CPI-M?and left parties "our (Congress') natural allies" to fight the BJP.

"Sitaram Yechury's taking over reigns of CPM is best thing to happen for Leftist politics in India when Mr Modi is all for a capitalist India.

"Congress being a left of centre party, the CPM & other left parties should be our natural allies to fight the anti-poor & pro-capitalist BJP," he said.

Besides, in another tweet, he called for Rahul Gandhi to create his own team for the battle ahead.

"The sea change being witnessed in RG is a great hope for Congress. It's time for him now to create his new team of fresh faces for battle," he tweeted.
