New Delhi: Leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, on Monday sided with party vice-president Rahul Gandhi for calling the ruling BJP `suit-boot ki sarkar` and accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government of making `land banks` and allotting them to corporates.
"The government wants to make land bank and allot them to big corporates. So, that is the context in which he (Rahul) made the remark," Kharge said.
"In the speech, (Rahul Gandhi) gave an example of how the ruling BJP government works in the favour of corporates and industrialists because of the provisions made in the Land Acquisition Act, which kill the rights of the farmers," he added.
Making his first speech in the 16th Lok Sabha earlier today, Rahul Gandhi in an apparent reference to the name-striped suit worn by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during US president Barack Obama`s visit to India in January said, "Yours is a government of big people, a suit-boot sarkar."
The Congress vice-president further lashed out at the Centre and said the `acche din` government has failed the country.
"The `acche din` government has failed the country on minimum support price and agriculture credit. In our time, agriculture grew. The average increase in credit was 20 percent each year," Gandhi said.
"The "acche din" government has given only an increase of five percent MSP, agricultural credit has not been improved and agricultural growth is one percent," he added.
Gandhi also accused the government of ignoring the farmers.
"One thing is clear. This government is ignoring the farmers and doesn`t listen to labourers. It is the truth that your government is ignoring the farmers and that is why you are raising the voices," he added.
