Lok Sabha Speaker likely to revoke suspension of 25 Congress MPs tomorrow: Reports

New Delhi: After much hullabaloo over the suspension of 25 Congress MPs, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan might revoke her order on Wednesday, reports said on Tuesday.

According to news agency ANI, Biju Janata Dal and Trinamool Congress leaders are mediating between the Speaker and the Congress to sort out the contentious issue.

25 of Congress party's 44 members were suspended yesterday for five working days for continuously disrupting the House by demanding resignation of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj and Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje over Lalit Modi issue and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan over Vyapam scam.

The reports come just hours after the Congress, including some other Opposition parties, staged protest at Parliament premises denouncing the Narendra Modi government.

While protesting at Gandhi statue in the Parliament, the Congress launched a blistering attack on the BJP.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party vice president Rahul Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh led the protest.

While Sonia Gandhi described the Lok Sabha speaker's decision to suspend 25 of her party MPs as a "murder" of democracy, Rahul dared the Narendra Modi government to suspend all party MPs.

“They can throw us all out of Parliament, but we will not be deterred,” Rahul told reporters after protesting against the move near the statue of Mahatma Gandhi.

Manmohan Singh said that suspending members of Congress party in Lok Sabha was no way to resolve issues.

The Congress members, including former prime minister Manmohan Singh, leader of Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, and former union ministers Ghulam nabi Azad, Jairam Ramesh and Ambika Soni, wore black bands on their arms and protested in front the Mahatma Gandhi statue in Parliament complex.

The suspension of 25 Congress MPs and the resultant boycott by several parties had its echo in the Lok Sabha today with a BJD member making a strong plea against taking up any legislative business in the absence of the opposition.
