New Delhi: Hitting out at the Congress for dragging on the controversy even after External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's clarification over travel documents given to former IPL chief Lalit Modi, the BJP on Monday said that the opposition party is facing bankruptcy of ideas and trying to convert a non-issue into an issue.
"It is the bankruptcy of the Congress politics to show pictures of parts of an IPL match which was played at Ahmedabad in 2010. That time (Prime Minister Narendra) Modiji was president of Gujrat Cricket Association whereas Amit Shah was vice-chairman. There was no charge against Lalit Modi that time. What does the Congress want to prove?" said union minister Prakash Javadekar at a press conference at the BJP headquarters here.
Showing old photographs of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah with Lalit Modi, the Congress on Monday alleged that Lalit Modi had contacts not only with Sushma Swaraj, but also with the prime minister and Amit Shah.
Javadekar dismissed the Congress' logic.
"You are showing a photo today to prove a point which is not a point... if this is the logic which Congress wants to build, there are hundreds of photos of (former union ministers) Jyotiraditya Scindia and Rajiv Shukla with Lalit Modi," he said.
Javadekar noted that the Congress, which is calling Lalit Modi a fugitive now, was in power when he had left the country.
"They have no issues and they are trying to convert a non-issue into an issue," he added.
"Sushma ji herself has made a categorical clarification and after Amit Shah's statement endorsing what Sushmaji has done, I think there is no point of any debate now," he said.
Throwing a challenge to the Congress, Javadekar in a pointed reference to party vice president Rahul Gandhi's recent 59-day sojourn asked the Congress leadership to disclose where their leader goes on vacation and on what visa.
