New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) joint general secretary Krishna Gopal has been chosen as the pointsman between the Sangh and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a role played by Suresh Soni till now, sources said on Monday.

Soni has been handling the job of pointsman for a long time now. In the recent past, Krishna Gopal and Dattatreya Hosabale have shared some of his burden.

The rising graph of Krishna Gopal, an intellectual and a PhD holder, was visible when he was given the charge of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand a few months before the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. Gopal hails from Uttar Pradesh, he was positioned in Guwahati till now by RSS.

The impressive performance of BJP in both these states probably reinforced the view that Gopal should be given a larger role.

"The RSS has decided to appoint Krishna Gopal as the party's new Coordinator to deal with the party (BJP)," All- India Prachar Pramukh of RSS Manmohan Vaidya said.

Vaidya said henceforth Gopal will be the Sangh man to deal with all matters pertaining to BJP.

Senior RSS leaders have gathered in Lucknow for the 10 day meeting of Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal, the highest policy-making body of the Sangh, starting October 13.

RSS office-bearers are likely to discuss key issues including the issue of its coordination with BJP during the meeting in Lucknow.
