New Delhi: Amid raging controversy over anti-national activities in JNU, Kanhaiya Kumar, JNUSU president, during a hearing in Patiala House court on Wednesday said, "I am not anti-national and don't support anti-India slogans."
During the hearing before the Delhi court, Kanhaiya Kumar said that he believes in Constitution of India and doesn't support the February 9 event in JNU.
"I am an Indian and I don't support anti-India activities," Kanhaiya Kumar added in a statement before the court.
Judicial custody till March 2
JNU student leader Kanhaiya Kumar, arrested on sedition charges, was on Wednesday sent to judicial custody till March 2.
Metropolitan Magistrate Lovleen gave the ruling after Delhi Police said it did not need the president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU) any more for interrogation.
Earlier, ahead of the hearing, Kanhaiya Kumar was assaulted by lawyers when he was entering a Patiala House court room in Delhi on Wednesday, witnesses said. His arrest has triggered a political storm.
On Monday, lawyers had assaulted mediapersons and JNU students inside the Patiala House court complex, which is located in the heart of Delhi.
Kanhaiya Kumar, from the CPI-affiliated All India Students Federation (AISF), was arrested on February 12 on charges of raising anti-India slogans during a meeting on Kashmir in the campus.
