Jet Airways pilots put 152 passengers at risk, land plane with near empty fuel tanks

New Delhi: In an incident that will send shivers down the spine of all air passengers, a Jet Airways flight from Doha to Kochi made an emergency landing at Thiruvanathapuram with almost empty fuel tanks.

As per a report in CNN-IBN, pilots manning the flight carried out 6 go-arounds over Cochin Intentional Airport and Bangalore International Airport after they failed to locate the runway at Kochi due to poor weather conditions. There were 152 people on board the plane.

Apparently, the pilot was desperate to land at Kochi. The incident occurred on August 8.

The delay thus caused brought down the fuel level below the mandatory minimum level of 3500 kg; at the end the pilots desperately dashed to Thiruvananthapuram airport and landed under emergency conditions citing low fuel level.

A few more minutes of delay would have stalled the plane leading to its dropping from the sky like a stone.

The news report further claimed that DGCA has put the pilots under suspension and is reviewing the fuel policy applicable for Indian commercial jets.
