NDTV quoting sources said that Rajan is likely to be brought to Delhi first.

Rajan is wanted in more than 70 cases of murder, extortion and drug trafficking in India.

The 55-year-old crime boss has been on the run for two decades after the Interpol issued a notice in 1995 for his arrest.

Rajan was arrested after he stepped off a plane from Sydney on October 25 in Indonesia. Rajan told Indian officials in Indonesia that his life is at risk in that country and wanted to return home.

Reports said that Rajan's arrest was part of a secret deal with Indian security agencies. Rajan is believed to have sought help from Indian officals as his network has been weakened over the years while the threat from his adversaries, particularly Dawood Ibrahim, has been huge.

At the time of his arrest in Bali airport, Rajan was carrying an Indian passport with the assumed name Mohan Kumar.
