Srinagar: Hardline Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani has called an anti-India seminar in Srinagar on June 14, to protest what he calls Indian government's “fascist agenda”.
As per reports, Geelani has invited members of India's minority communities including Sikhs and Christians for the seminar. Akali Dal leader Simranjit Singh Mann is among those who have been invited for the seminar.
Local media reports in Kashmir quoted Geelani as saying in a statement that the seminar was aimed to protest “communal forces” of India that are attempting to saffronise the Kashmir region by implementing their “fanatic Hindutva” agenda.
“And for this purpose they are using their state power and are breaching all the moral and cultural boundaries,” the Hurriyat leader stated.
He further called the “communal and fascist agendas of the new Indian government” as “deadly” and tried to champion the minorities cause by saying that if the same is not countered, “the existence and the identity of all the minorities of India will be in acute danger and their future will be very bleak.”
The seminar has been named 'How to Resist the Indian State Fascism'.
Hurriyat's Geelani is known to organise anti-India rallies and events, and waving of Pakistani flags has become a routine at political events attended by him.
Recently, while applying to obtain an Indian passport, Geelani had mentioned 'Indian' in the nationality column but told reporters shortly after that it was a compulsion to mention the same.
