HPU students stage protest, demand revaluation of answer sheets

The students of Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), which is facing stiff opposition from student bodies after implementation of RUSA (Rashtriya Uchhatar Shiksha Abhiyan), today alleged that 98 per cent failure in the first semester of undergraduate colleges was "shocking and unprecedented".

The students held a demonstration against the University and demanded revaluation of answer sheets claiming the number of failures can never be so high.

Taking note of unrest among the students, Vice Chancellor Prof A D N Bajpai today said the students would not be allowed to suffer and necessary steps would be taken to address their grievances.

He said a high-level committee under the chairmanship of Dean, College Development Council, Prof S S Chauhan has been set up to look into the matter.

Other members of the committee are Dr J S Negi, COE, Dr Raja Ram, Principal Government College Kotshera, Dr Ram Lal Sharma, General Secretary, HPGCTA and Dr Mukesh Kumar, System Analyst of the Computer cell.

The Vice Chancellor said that the committee has been entrusted with the job of proper function of software, proper transmission of actual marks given by the college teachers and proper tabulation with the main results besides random checking of evaluated answer sheets.

He appealed to the student community to remain calm and not raise hue and cry and wait for the report of the fact finding committee.
