Government urges Opposition to help pass GST bill

Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday urged the opposition to help pass the Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill in winter session of parliament.

Bhavnagar: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Monday urged the opposition to help pass the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and other bills related to economic reforms in the winter session of Parliament.

Addressing a public meeting ahead of local body elections scheduled for November 29, he hoped that the Congress and other parties would rise above political rivalries and cooperate with the government.

The minister said the Corruption Prevention (Amendment) and Whistle Blower (Amendment) bills also needed in the fight against corruption.

He said the passage of the proposed GST Bill would be historic, aimed at bringing about transparency in governance. 

The minister said the GST legislation would singularly lead to an increase of 1=2 percent growth in Gross Domestic Product.

Naqvi said the government had called an all-party meeting on November 25 to discuss ways to ensure smooth functioning of the parliament session to let these important legislations see the light of the day.
