Ghaziabad: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday took a dig at Rahul Gandhi saying the Congress leader is levelling several allegations against NDA but has not spoken a word about "corruption" during UPA rule.

Referring to Rahul's barbs against the BJP and his meetings with the farmers over the Land Bill after his return from sabbatical, Gadkari said, "The Congress vice president never spoke even a single word regarding corruption during the ten-year regime of UPA government and now he is accusing NDA government of scrapping UPA's land bill."

Gadkari was speaking at the closing ceremony of the two-day conclave of BJP state working committee convened here to formulate the strategies for party's 'Mission-2017' (UP Assembly elections).

Addressing the party workers, Gadkari said if Mayawati or Mulayam Singh Yadav construct the roads after acquiring farmlands, it is said that they are doing it for the betterment of public and are developing infrastructure but if the BJP is constructing roads and national highways it is called an "anti-farmer" party.

Drawing a comparison between the BJP-led regime and the previous Congress-headed rule, Gadkari said that the UPA government was constructing roads 2 kms per day in his tenure, while the NDA is constructing 11 to 14 kms road per day.

The Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping further said that a NH-24 will be developed with 16 lanes and the work will start by the end of May 2015 and that RCC roads will be constructed in Uttar Pradesh in the coming three years.

Also, a project of making highway from Varanasi to Haldia is in pipeline, he said.
