Fuel price hike: Digvijaya Singh taunts govt, says 'achhe din aa gaye'

Taking a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its tall promises of bringing 'ache din' during the campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Friday taunted the Centre over the hike in fuel prices and wondered whether Finance Minister Arun Jaitley would reduce the Central Excise Duty to absorb the international price hike.

New Delhi: Taking a jibe at the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) over its tall promises of bringing 'ache din' during the campaigning for the Lok Sabha polls, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Friday taunted the Centre over the hike in fuel prices and wondered whether Finance Minister Arun Jaitley would reduce the Central Excise Duty to absorb the international price hike.

"Petrol and Diesel prices hiked. Would Arun Jaitley reduce the Central Excise Duty to absorb the International Price Hike? Achhe Din aa gaye !" Singh tweeted.

The price of petrol has been increased by Rs 3.96 per litre and diesel by Rs 2.37 per litre. The new rates came into effect from last midnight.

Petrol in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai will now cost Rs 63.16 per litre, Rs 70.44, Rs 70.84 and Rs 66.08 respectively. For diesel, the consumers will have to pay Rs. 49.57 per litre in Delhi, Rs 54.17 in Kolkata, Rs 56.87 in Mumbai and Rs 52.76 in Chennai.
