New Delhi: If reports are to believed, the Congress party is all set to announce the revival of the National Herald and two other newspapers.
The announcement of the revival will reportedly be made at the end of this month. The National Herald along with two other newspapers went out of print some eight years ago due to financial crisis.
The grand old party is now planning to make an official announcement on the proposed relaunch as early as next week. A final meeting of the board of directors for the publications clears the name of the editor of National Herald, sources said.
The newspaper was founded in 1938 by freedom-fighter stalwart Jawaharlal Nehru in at Lucknow. However, it was banned by British during the 1942 Quit India movement. The prestigious paper faced brief shutdowns again in the 1940s and later in 70s.
Congress party treasurer Motilal Vora, who is CMD of the Associated Journals Limited (AJL) that published the three papers, while speaking to Hindustan Times said, “We intend to revive all three papers – National Herald, Qaumi Awaaz (Urdu) and Navjeewan (Hindi).”
“The decision was taken in January this year. We are now close to finalising the editor’s name for the operations to start. We will make a formal announcement within a few days,” he added.
