New Delhi: A 6.5-magnitude earthquake hit northern Afghanistan on late Friday night near the border with Tajikistan, the US Geological Survey said.

Tremors were felt across northern parts of India.

Tremors were reported from Chandigarh, Jaipur, Delhi and the National Capital Region in India.

The Delhi Police tweeted to say there have not been any calls reporting any damage or casualty as yet.

Cracks in buildings were also reported in Azad Kashmir after 6.9 earthquake. No loss of life has been reported.

Reports developed with time that at least 30 injuries were updated by Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar including 22 males, 8 females and three children.Sources claim that emergency has been declared across several parts of Pakistan as people have been asked to stay alert.

The location of the earthquake was 81 km southeast of Feyzabad in Afghanistan, reported seismological monitors. The US Geological Survey reported the earthquake had a depth of 203.5 kilometres.

Pakistan Defence had tweeted stating the people to get out of their houses as after shocks were predicted to be destructive.

Tremors were reported from Chandigarh, Jaipur, Delhi and the National Capital Region in India.

Strong tremors were also felt in northern India and Pakistan at around 12:48 am.

Two months earlier more than 300 people were killed by a quake in the same mountainous region. A magnitude-7.5 quake hit northern Afghanistan and Pakistan on Oct 26, destroying thousands of houses and taking lives of so many people.
