New Delhi: Congress leader Digvijay Singh has announced that his wife Amrita Rai, who is a journalist by profession, has foregone her right on his ancestral and self-earned property in the favour of his son Jaivardhan Singh.

Digvijay Singh, who is a Congress general secretary and a former chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, had confirmed his relationship with Rai in April 2014.

The Congress leader made the recent announcement on microblogging website Twitter.

Digvijay Singh tied the knot with Amrita Rai in September last year as per Hindu rites.

In a Facebook post, Rai had then declared: "I would like to share with my friends that I and Digvijaya Singh have married in a solemn ceremony, as per Hindu rites. We have also later registered our marriage".

Rai, who works with Rajya Sabha TV, said she married for love.

"Therefore, I have already requested him to transfer all his property and belongings to his son and daughters. I only want to embark on this new journey with him, working towards a dignified, professional career," she added.
