Demonetisation row: Post unimpressive Aakrosh Diwas, Opposition in huddle again

New Delhi: Following their Aakrosh Diwas, which did not seem to have any major impact on the Centre in regards with demonetisation, the Opposition is set to go into a huddle yet again ahead of Tuesday`s Parliament session.

The Opposition parties will meet around 9:40 am in Parliament to discuss their strategy.

Yesterday, leaders of opposition parties met to discuss their strategy in view of continued impasse in both houses of Parliament because of demonetisation.

The leaders decided to continue their demand for seeking Prime Minister Narendra Modi`s presence during a discussion on the matter in the Rajya Sabha to ensure smooth functioning of the House.

They also sought the Prime Minister`s apology for his alleged remarks against the opposition for its criticism on the implementation of demonetisation.

The demand of setting up of Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) to probe the alleged selective leakage of the decision to demonetise high value currency notes is to be continued by the Opposition.

Meanwhile, the BJP has branded the nation-wide shutdown and protests by the opposition against demonetisation as a flop show.

Party secretary Shrikant Sharma claimed that the people have rejected it as they have no faith in the parties who are supporting black money and corruption, adding that the common people have appreciated the efforts of the Prime Minister.

In Himachal Pradesh, the Bharat Bandh call by the CPI-M evoked no response as essential services, shops and commercial establishments remained open.Life also remained normal throughout in the state and buses as well as private vehicles plied on roads as usual.

As part of Congress Party`s Akrosh Diwas, Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh accompanied by his cabinet colleagues and HPCC president Sukhvinder Singh Sukkhu submitted a memorandum against the Centre`s decision to demonetise to Governor Acharya Devvrat at the Raj Bhawan in Shimla.
