New Delhi: The Centre has asked all the states and union territories not to discriminate against minorities while registering an FIR as timely filing of chargesheet and speedy trial will restore the faith of different communities.

The Home Ministry said, as per the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), a police officer is duty-bound to register a case on the basis of any information disclosing a cognisable offence and anFIR has to be registered irrespective of territorial jurisdiction.
