New Delhi: Tim Sargent, Associate Deputy Minister of Finance, Canada, will be visiting India this week, to take part in the India-Canada Economic and Financial Sector Policy Dialogue. Sargent will lead the Canadian delegation to the dialogue, which will be held on February 13 in New Delhi.

Dinesh Sharma, Additional Secretary (EA), Department of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Finance, will lead the Indian side.

Sargent will be joined by high level officials from Finance Canada, the Bank of Canada, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), the Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation, and the Financial Consumer Agency of Canada.

Indian participants will include high level officials from the Ministry of Finance, the Reserve Bank of India, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI), and the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDA).

The Economic and Financial Sector Policy (EFSP) Dialogues are vehicles to develop and maintain relations on financial sector issues between Canada and India, and to promote collaboration between Indian and Canadian financial institutions.

The Dialogues were announced by Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Stephen Harper during a state visit in 2012, with the inaugural round being held in Ottawa in July 2013.

The Canada-India EFSP dialogues aim to strengthen the bilateral relationship and explore areas of deeper cooperation between financial sector regulators from both countries. By building a better understanding of each other's financial sector framework, financial sector regulators can effectively work together to address policy and regulatory issues of mutual interest.

The EFSP Dialogues process demonstrates India and Canada's joint commitment to building strong bilateral ties as the trade and investment relationship between the two countries grows.
