Amalgamate knowledge, culture for welfare of society: Rajnath Singh

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today made a strong pitch for amalgamation of knowledge with culture to curb the growing tendency among Indian students to indulge in terrorism.

Haridwar: Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh today made a strong pitch for amalgamation of knowledge with culture to curb the growing tendency among Indian students to indulge in terrorism.

"Knowledge can be used for the welfare of a society only when it is combined with culture and traditional values," Singh said addressing the 112th convocation of Gurukul Kangdi Vishwavidyalaya here.

While emphasising that attaining knowledge is important, Singh said, spiritual growth of students through education based on values is equally significant.

"Currently there are two types of students in India. Those who are educated here and are giving the benefits of their knowledge to foreign countries.

"Unfortunately, there is also another type of students who are channelising their knowledge towards things like terrorism and trying to destabilise the country," he said adding that the tendency needs to be curbed.

At a time when education in India is being increasingly westernised and Indian values are being eroded, the responsibility of institutions like Gurukul Kangdi University becomes more important, he said.

The Union Minister was also conferred with the honorary title of "Vidya Martand" on the occasion.
