New Delhi: A day after Congress leader Manish Tewari courted a controversy with remarks on 2012 troop movements, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Ashutosh on Sunday called for a probe into the issue.

"Manish Tewari's statement on Troupe movement during V K Singh's time is important, can't be brushed aside, should be enquired throughly," AAP leader Ashutosh tweeted.

The former Information and Broadcasting Minister on Saturday confirmed the accuracy of a news item published by the Indian Express on two army troops moving towards Delhi in January 2012 without any notification. "At that time I used to serve in the Standard Committee of Defence. And it's unfortunate but the story was true. The story was correct," he said at a book launch in New Delhi.

Union Minister VK Singh, who was the army chief in 2012, brushed off Tewari's charges and said, "Tewari ji has no work to do these days. There is a book of mine. Ask him to read it and everything will be clear to him."
