BJP alleges political interference in HPU, submits memorandum to Guv

The state BJP today alleged 'political interference' over appointment of teachers in Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and sought Governor's intervention in the matter.

Shimla: The state BJP today alleged 'political interference' over appointment of teachers in Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and sought Governor's intervention in the matter.

A memorandum signed by former Himachal Pradesh chief minister P K Dhumal and state BJP chief Sat Pal Singh Satti alleged that HPU was holding interviews for the post of teachers without declaring the results of interviews for 37 posts of assistant professors held in 2012.

They also demanded that either the results of interviews in 2012 be declared and selected candidates be issued appointment letters, or the interviews held recently should also be cancelled.

The memorandum was submitted to the Himachal Pradesh Governor Dev Vrat Acharya.

The BJP leaders said that the interviews for the posts of teachers were held in accordance with UGC guidelines and norms, but after the change of the government the University cancelled the interviews on the plea that these were not held as per the UGC norms.

The qualification for applying for the posts were Ph.D, and NET and SET clearance and the affected aspirants moved the court and the matter was still pending, they said.

However, the University has held interviews for eleven post on the basis of same norms and guidelines, the memorandum said, and sought the intervention of the Governor to pave way for fair selections.
