Three infants die after measles vaccination in UP

Three infants were killed and few others taken ill allegedly after being administered measles vaccine during a drive in Muttaur village here, police said today.

Fatehpur: Three infants were killed and few others taken ill allegedly after being administered measles vaccine during a drive in Muttaur village here, police said today.

"As many as 22 children were given measles vaccine in the village yesterday and by evening some of them were taken ill and were admitted to the district hospital of which two later died", district magistrate Rakesh Kumar said.

"It would be known whether the cause of death was vaccine or any illness only after receiving the post mortem report", the DM said adding that others taken ill were undergoing treatment at the district hospital.

While the DM identified the dead as Mukesh (8 months) and Adarsh (10 months), locals claimed that Preeti (8 months) also died after vaccination.

The medical superintendent OP Dwivedi said that those ill were undergoing treatment in hospital and their condition was improving.
