Suspected AES case reported in Bengal

 A suspected case of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome was reported in West Bengal in the last 24 hours, a health official said today.

Kolkata: A suspected case of Acute Encephalitis Syndrome was reported in West Bengal in the last 24 hours, a health official said today.

"One person from Burdwan was admitted to the Burdwan Medical College and Hospital with AES symptoms in the last 24 hours," said West Bengal Health Services Director Biswaranjan Satpathy.

There were, however, no fresh deaths or new cases reported from any place in the state, he said.

The condition of the teenager, admitted to the Calcutta School of Tropical Medicine with Japanese Encephalitis remained critical, Satpathy said.

The boy, a resident of Uchhepota village in the Sonarpur police station area of South 24-Parganas district, was admitted to the CSTM last Saturday after his condition deteriorated at a district hospital. PTI
