New Delhi: The unexpected showers have sent alarm bells ringing in the Health department of Delhi government as the Health Minister Satyendra Jain held an emergency review meeting on swine flu on Monday and put all the designated hospitals on alert.
"I held a review meeting on swine flu. There is no dearth of medicines and also checked the facilities. We have also put the hospitals designated to treat swine flu on alert. Doctors, if they think suitable, should immediately put patients on oseltamivir, if they show symptoms like cough, cold and temperature between 100-101 degrees celsius," Satyendra Jain told PTI.
Meanwhile, 111 new cases of swine flu were reported today taking the total figure to 3110 in the city. The death toll still stands at 10.
"A total 440 people were tested for the H1N1 influenza virus out of which 111 turned positive. No fresh death has been reported today," said a senior official from the Health department.
According to experts from the Health department, the weather conditions are favourable for the H1N1 virus to thrive and thus public should be vigilant.
"The virus would wane away with increase in temperature but this spell of rains have brought down the temperature considerably. It is a favourable condition for H1N1 virus which persists in cold temperature and more people may get infected by the diseases.
"There is a need to maintain personal hygiene to prevent the infection from spreading," said an expert from the Health department.
