Punjab Government is mulling to to implement a state-specific organ transplantation Act to facilitate smooth transfer of vital organs.

Chandigarh: Punjab Government is mulling to to implement a state-specific organ transplantation Act to facilitate smooth transfer of vital organs.

The modalities regarding legislative action to adopt such Act in respect of Punjab have been chalked out, state Medical Education and Research Minister Anil Joshi said today.

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare had formulated Transplantation of Human Organ Act in 1994 and the Punjab government had also made it applicable in the state, he said.

With the passage of time, several amendments were carried out in the legislation because organ transplantation has been instrumental in saving many precious lives, he said.

Many social welfare organisations and especially Radha Soami Satsang Beas Dera Head had written to the Medical Education and Research Department to adopt the Act in respect of the state of Punjab following which the new legislation is being planned, Joshi said.
