Coimbatore: The health department has identified a little over 1,000 persons--- children and pregnant women--who missed the mandatory vaccination for preventable diseases in Coimbatore district and they would be covered under the Centre's 'Mission Indradhanush' programme, a top official said on Monday.
The department carried out a one-week survey and identified 1047 persons, including 293 pregnant women, who were not immunised and they would be covered under the Mission Indradhanush, a programme to ensure 100 percent immunisation to all children from zero to two years, Dr S Somasundaram, Deputy Director of Health Services, told reporters here.
The children should take seven vaccines in a period of two years, and some might have missed one or two, and such persons will be covered in the programme, he said.
The Centre has chosen 200 districts in the country for the programme and Coimbatore is one among the eight districts in Tamil Nadu selected.
As per the programme, from April 7-13, special immunisation camps will be organised in the 325 sites mostly Health Sub Centres and ICDS Centres, to cover these children and women who missed their vaccination, he said.
The programme will be continued in May, June and July also.
Tamil Nadu is now free from most of vaccine preventable diseases and to sustain the level and to give protection to the infants it is important to vaccinate all children at the due dates, he added.
